THE PROJECT

The Center for the Arts is being developed in three phases:

Phase I – Completed
Funds spent: $300,000 

  • Stabilize farmhouse foundation
  • Renovate farmhouse kitchen into gallery space
  • Stabilize the barn and pour new foundation
  • Stabilize and move the grain silo
  • Create outdoor amphitheater seating using granite slabs from barn’s old foundation

Phase II – This phase will renovate the 6200 square foot barn into a multi-use learning/performance/gallery space.  Our goal is to begin Phase II in mid-2012. Campaign is currently at 80% of this goal!! Help get us to the finish line!
Estimated cost: $850,000

  • Add infrastructure (water, electricity, insulation, heat/cooling, phone/data wiring, fire protection system)
  • Replace windows, doors, flooring
  • Create an open gallery/performance space
  • Add classrooms and rehearsal rooms
  • Multi-use performance space
  • Rooms for meetings and lecture series
  • Add bathrooms, kitchenette, soundproofing
  • Storage for arts and theatrical equipment
  • Expand footprint to add elevator and stairs for access to upper floors 

Phase III  –  This phase will build a theater at the site.

FUNDING TO DATE

  • $250,000 Community Preservation funds
  • $250,000 pledged by the Hopkinton Community Endowment
  • A local solar company has pledged to provide and install solar panels for the barn roof.

CAMPAIGN GOAL: $400,000

The HCA will provide positive benefits to the local area, without negative impacts to Hopkinton taxpayers.  Funds for each phase are being raised from public support and private donors. Development not only benefits local artists and residents, but also local businesses.  A local architectural firm was commissioned to design the Center and local contractors have submitted bids for the renovation work.
