Our History
The idea for the HCE began during the time when the town was deciding to build a new High School in the late 90’s. Many citizens were concerned about property taxes as capital projects caused large increases. In searching for ways to control the inevitable effect on taxes, a group of citizens looked to the endowment model as a perfect way to proactively plan for the town’s future. As such, the Hopkinton Community Endowment came into being as a creative solution to sound financial planning on the municipal level.
Today, the HCE is seen as a community’s unique and creative response to the always present capital needs of the town. Hopkinton has a history of always pulling itself up by its own bootstraps and the HCE is the most recent example of that tradition!
Our Vision
Our vision is to empower residents with the ability to make the best choices for our town with fewer fiscal constraints in order to preserve the character of our community that makes Hopkinton so unique.
Our Mission
In 1998 a group of citizens envisioned a way for Hopkinton to have both high quality facilities and services while maintaining affordability for all residents regardless of their age or income. The Hopkinton Community Endowment was founded on that vision and continues to serve as a non-profit, publicly supported organization that provides a permanent funding mechanism to reduce taxes.
Only capital projects approved by Hopkinton voters are eligible for funding upon approval of the Board of Directors. The Endowment is committed to a strategy of prudent financial investment of the funds we manage.
NOTE In 2011, The Endowment’s by-laws were amended to include capital projects that benefit all of the community, without tax dollars!

Until December 31, 2011, donations of $5,000 and over will be matched!
